i did some PHOTOGRAPHY AS A kid with an old Agfa pocket camera, HOWEVER THE HOBBY WAS PUT ON HOLD DURING DISINTEREST WHILE BEING A TEENAGER. I've re-DISCOVERED MY AFFINITY FOR PHOTOGRAPHY AGAIN AROUND 2006, AND BOUGHT MY FIRST DSLR IN LATE 2009, uncoincidentally with my first reliable income. Around the same time I also took up film photography again, due to a drunk late night purchase of an old german rolleicord. soon afterwards i found myself in the midst of a "hoarding" craze, culminating in an impressive yet utterly useless collection. A change of mind came with a trip in 2011, where I had taken a singular one-lens-one-camera combination with me. Prior to that i was usually equipped with at least one digital and one analogue camera, accompanied by a selection of prime and zoom lenses. from said trip on i've stayed with the same setup - which is one 50 mm (or equivalent) lens and one camera. the barcelona trip revealed that minimized equipment lets me focus on photography itself.
The first dslr i - a crop format dslr - was replaced by a full format dslr shortly after the release of its successor. latter camera stayed with me until i've grown weary over it's weight, yearning for a lighter and smaller one considering my main way to shell out money became travelling. i eventually bought a crop mirrorless camera, again close to the release of its successor. while crop mirrorless did fulfill my demands of light weight, i turned out to be unhappy with the quality of the electronic viewfinder and the inability/difficulties to reliably use a polarization filter. Just after 16 months a full format mirrorless replaced the previous one, settling the weight and size somewhere between a full-frame dslr and a crop mirrorless. and not 2 years afterwards i switched back to a crop mirrorless. so - i still have not decided what i really want.
my analogue craze started as stated before with an late-night acquisition of a rolleicord III, which soon thereafter got accompanied by countless 35 mm film cameras. The fact, that used 35 mm cameras were cheaper than any digital camera was ambivalent: disadvantageous, because they can be bought cheap yet film is expensive, but also advantageous, because it taught me that all cameras are alike, are similar and are different. digging oneself deeper into film photography, I became much more fond of medium format and after trying point-and-shoot styled, or folding roll film cameras, I found the perfect combination of two 120 film camera models: a heavy slr workhorse and a small versatile rangefinder camera, both using the 6x6 format.
As of the selection of lenses I already stated, that i only use normal prime lenses. A 27mm f/2.8 for the x-pro2, a 80mm f/2.8 for the Rolleiflex 6008 professional and a 75mm f/3.5 for the mamiya 6. i did own more lenses - in fact i owned more lenses than i owned cameras over the years, but as it was with the cameras, the same strategy was applied for the lenses: selling. for the concert photography i owned a 85mm in the beginning and switched to a 100mm lens, however I barely used it during travel or everyday photography. The same happened to my wide and ultra-wide lenses. they were bought in a craze to imitate great photography but i never came close to achieve the photos that I've admired.
